Esko Lotvonen is the mayor of the City of Rovaniemi.
Mr. Esko Lotvonen is an economist born in Rovaniemi and has worked as the Mayor in Rovaniemi City (the Capital of Lapland in Finland) since august 2012. Before that he led 17 years the Regional Council of Lapland in his position as County Governor. He was responsible to lead planning processes and implementation of both national and EU- development programmes in Lapland, the only Arctic County in Finland.
Mr. Lotvonen has worked 35 years in different vacancies to enhance development of Finland´s and EU`s northernmost county. In his earlier carrier he was Counsellor of Regional Development in the State Provincial Office of Lapland. Mr. Lotvonen has also worked in the University of Oulu as researcher in early 1980`s and 1989-90. He has acted on voluntary base in different positions of trust for many organisations.
During last 20 years he has dedicated to develop both mining and tourism sector in Lapland. He has long experience in national and international cooperation. Mr. Lotvonen has had numerous memberships in national and international working groups, committees and boards. He has participated actively to development and implementation of bilateral cooperation with North-West Russia and multinational cooperation within regions in Arctic, Barents, North Calotte and Baltic Sea Area and recently also globally in Winter Cities Association of Mayors as Vice President.
