Media is the mirror of the world but the picture in the mirror is not always recognizable. For Arctic indigenous peoples it is of crucial importance how they are portrayed in media, both local and global media. This question is however not often discussed in Arctic events. Trying to find answers bear relevance to sustainable living in the Arctic.
Moderated by Maria Saijets, an editor at Yle Sapmi (Sámi radio in Finland) the panel brings together a number of people who have first hand expertise in the field: indigenous media and communication experts, researchers and representatives from international and regional media.
In the panel, everyone is directly dealing with the main theme of the session. The discussion will raise real issues and concerns. The idea is not only to raise up problems but also focus on finding solutions, good practices and ways forward.
